The Commander Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Nigerian Army, Minna, Niger State, Major General Stevenson Olugbenga Olabamiji, has called for the need to adopt a more holistic approach in tackling security challenges facing the country.
Speaking at a three-day Security Awareness/Seminar organized for Barracks Community in Minna, Olabamiji stated that it is no longer news that the nation is grappling with challenges of armed robbery, armed banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, insurgency and terrorism amongst others.
“It is no longer news that the nation is grappling with challenges raging from armed robbery, armed banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, insurgency and terrorism amongst others in virtually across Nigeria’s geo-political zones and this calls for a more holistic approach in addressing them,” he said.
According to him, increased security threats necessitated not only the deployment of the military and paramilitary across the country, but creating awareness, especially for civilian communities in military formations.
On the three-day Security Seminar, the Commander explained that it became necessary now, because the barracks is no longer just a habitation area for military personnel but now a community.
“This and many more necessitated the training for all Nigerians to be abreast of the security situation and how to check the trend. And the unique thing about security is that it is everybody’s business even though a great majority of Nigerians are yet to see it through this perspective,” he maintained.
He insisted, “That is why I am deeply convinced that this seminar put in place today is timely and apt because, charity begins at home. So, why the need for security awareness within the barracks, one may be tempted to ask? Is the barracks not supposed to be safe on its own? The seminar is necessary now because the barracks is no longer just a habitation area for military personnel but now a community”
“The seminar will amongst others enlighten the barrack community on some non-negligible security concerns for their safety and that of their immediate families.”
