A leading member of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, has stated that Nigerians are dying every day due to insecurity.
He said that in all this, nothing tangible has been done by the President and Commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari to visibly curtail the situation.
Bamgbose pointed out that the spate of insecurity in Nigeria is alarming and fast becoming a hopeless matter, adding that there are heavy doubts in the minds of Nigerians regarding Buhari’s ability to end the reign of insecurity in the nation.
“It has become obvious that Buhari lacks what it takes to secure Nigeria. The responses so far from the Presidency have shown that the insecurity in Nigeria has become hopeless and helpless,” Bamgbose, a senior lawyer, told DAILY POST.
“The Presidency has formed the habit of giving Nigerians false hope and fake assurances, but very unfortunately the insecurity is getting worse day by day.
“The headlines in a matter of weeks are quite alarming and very unfortunate. Let’s examine a few of them, In Niger State, gunmen kill 37 civilians, four die as gunmen attack oil workers in Imo, bandits kill four, abduct scores in Katsina, gunmen invade Abuja community, kidnap chief, one other, injure two, 22 killed, 14 injured in Jos, bandits attack Zamfara college, kill security officers, abduct score of students. Nigeria has never had it so bad.
“These stories come daily. President Buhari as usual, will condemn the attacks, assure Nigerians that he will deal with the insecurity, and finally meet with the security chiefs.
“These have been the system. Nigerians are dying every day due to insecurity and nothing tangible has been done to visibly curtail insecurity.
“Ordinarily, in a civilized society, Buhari ought to have resigned honourably and vacated
the Presidential Villa as a result of his inability to stop the menace of insecurity, but that is certainly not an option that will be considered in our polity.
“The one-million-naira question is, how long are we to wait for President Buhari to crush the insurgents? President Buhari has less than two years to move out of Aso Rock and there is no hope at sight to give Nigerians a glimpse of hope that things will be better.
“The country is gasping for breath. Let’s tell ourselves the truth APC government has completely messed up the polity. Very unfortunately they have strong plans to cling to power come 2023.
“Nigeria may not be able to survive another 8 years of APC government, I seriously doubt that.
“There must be concerted efforts to ensure that APC is ejected from the Presidential Villa come 2023 or Nigeria may be grounded.”
