Victoria Island, Lagos stateFormer Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has spoken against the agitation for secession, arguing that Nigeria has more to gain by being united.
TVC reported that the Obasanjo made the statement on Friday, August 27, at a book launch held at the Admiralty Centre, Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos state.
The elder statesman pointed out that the cost of staying together as a nation is cheaper than the cost of dividing Nigeria.

He expressed the confidence that Nigeria will continue to exist despite calls by some people for the breakup of the country, according to The Punch.

Obasanjo said:
Secessionist groups like the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Yoruba Nation agitators have been calling for a breakaway country.
Meanwhile, the idea that the IPOB sit-at-home order will work in Imo state has been rubbished by Governor Hope Uzodimma.

Uzodimma made this known when he spoke with State House correspondents after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, The Nation Newspaper reports.
He said only a constituted authority can give order such an order and the people would obey, The Cable added.
In another news, Joe Igbokwe, the special adviser on drainage and water resources to the Lagos state governor, has claimed that the proscribed group, IPOB, has threatened to kill him.
The politician made the claim in an open letter addressed to the inspector general of police and southeast governors via his official Facebook page.
He said the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the paramilitary arm of IPOB has banned him from visiting the southeast region of the country.
