Times letters: Statues, the slave trade and 'woke revisionism' – The Times

Sir, I was proud to have graduated from Guy’s Hospital Medical School more than 40 years ago but I am now ashamed to read that the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation wishes to remove the statue of Thomas Guy from the hospital forecourt to some “less prominent position” because of his links to the slave trade (“Keep statue where it is, Dowden tells Guy’s” and leading article, Sep 4). This is despite its own survey showing that 75 per cent of respondents disagreed, and in apparent indifference to Guy’s legacy having served the many cultures of southeast London for 300 years. The woke misinterpretation of history tolerates only one view of the past, to all our detriment.
